Plot:  Annie (Kristen Wiig) is a single women in her mid 30's is struggling in life when her dream bakery "Cake Baby" failed which loses all her savings and to top it off she loses her boyfriend. She now works in a jewelry store and is in a sexual relationship with the self absorbed Ted (Jon Hamm). The only constant thing in her life is her childhood friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph).

Later Lillian becomes engaged to her boyfriend Doug (Tim Heidecker) and asks Annie to be her maid of honor. Annie says yes but is now worried how much everything is going to change.  When they go to the engagement party she get to meet the other bridesmaids Lillian's cousin Rita (wendi McLendon-Coney), ideal friend Becca (Ellie Kemper), the raunchy sister-in-law Megan (Melissa McCarthy) and Doug's boss "perfect" wife Helen (Rose Byrne). Annie and Helen both compete with Lillian's friendship straight away. On her way home she gets stopped by the an Officer Nathan (Chris O'Dowd) for having broken tailights. They both flirt and she gets away with a warning because he found out she was the owner of the "Cake Baby" which were the cakes he always enjoyed.

Through her efforts of been head bridesmaid she brings them to luch in a seedy down town restaurant and ends up ruining the bachelorette party which forces Lillian to give the shower and wedding planning to Helen. She rings Nathan for the two of them to hang out, later ending up spending the night together.
